Practice Self-Hypnosis for Pain Relief
You can practice self-hypnosis for pain relief by using the following relaxation exercise.
Colored feather exercise:
- Start by closing your eyes and taking 3 relaxing breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
- See just in front, about 18”, of you a red feather.
- Take a breath through your nose and see the feather move toward you. Now blow the red feather away by blowing out through your mouth. Watch it get smaller and smaller.
- See before you an orange feather. Take a breath in through your nose. See the orange feather come toward you. Now blow the orange feather away by blowing out through your mouth. Watch it become smaller…
- See a yellow feather. Take a breath in and watch the yellow feather come toward you, the yellow feather moving toward you. Now blow the yellow feather away.
- See a green feather. Take a breath in and see the green feather moving toward you. Now blow the green feather away.
- See a blue feather. Take a breath in and see the blue feather come toward you. Now blow the blue feather away.
Now breathe in and see the number 10. Hold the breath and see 9. Breathe out and see eight. Breathe in and see 7. Hold the breath and see six. Breathe out and see 5. Breathe in and see 4. Hold the breath and see three. Breathe out and see 2.
- Now see the number one tied to a purple feather. Grab hold of the number one and blow yourself away to your favorite place. Your favorite place can be anywhere you want. As you imagine being lifted up by the purple feather, notice how you are relieved of the pain.
Take in a breath and you will feel great. You’ll relax more in your favorite place. When you want to relieve pain, take in a ‘feather breath’ and feel the relief. To be in charge of yourself, take in a feather breath… you will do whatever you believe you can do. If you feel pain, take a ‘feather breath’ break.
Experiment with this and make it your own. You must practice if you want to find relief.
