Life Coach Portland, Oregon: Combine Your Written Goals with Deadlines

I have clients who come to me with perfectly organized goals complaining about being unable to achieve them. They admit to having several years of journals where they write a goal or desire to do or have something and they just carry the ‘thought’ over into the next writing. My advice is to always combine your written goals with deadlines.

Asking yourself to be realistic about when you’ll achieve that goal is essential. I suggest you set a deadline and then change it to be shorter, raising the bar…creating an edge for yourself to help increase focus and ingenuity.

I often use a kitchen timer for my writing practice. It keeps me focused and improves my ability to make choices more quickly. The advantage to this is deeper thinking and more effectiveness.

Setting the timer for 20 minutes instead of 30 pushes me to stay alert and avoid distractions. It’s a wonderful tool, try it!
