When clients come to me with a particular problem, I might say,” imagine yourself out of your problem”.
By using your imagination, you can learn to control your response.
Try this:
- Remember a time when you felt really good.
- Place yourself back in that time and notice all the little details surrounding you.
- You’ll want to notice the light or darkness and the colors as if you were there.
- You’ll want to hear the sounds that surrounded you.
- Notice how good you feel in every way.
- Take these specifics and exaggerate them: make a brightness brighter, the dominant colors richer, the sounds louder or if you don’t recall the sounds, add them. You’ll feel the good feelings become more intense.
- The control is in noticing where in your body the feeling resides and the direction it’s spinning.
- By spinning this faster, you intensify the good feelings and you will begin to recognize the control you truly have over your problems.
