Author Ellen Langer in her ‘psychology of possibility’ talks about how we start with the wrong assumption that we do not know what we can do to become more than we are.

She talks about raising the bar for ourselves and rather than starting from the point of ‘what is’, we could start from the point of what we would like to be.

As you begin, you can ask yourself  how you might reach the goal or make progress toward it. It’s a subtle change in thinking, although not difficult to make once we realize how stuck we are by a culture that limits our perspective.

This is where the NLP technique of modeling can be useful. We can discover our potential by finding and identifying the distinctions of another’s process, say, someone we admire, and studying these qualities until we incorporate them into our daily lives.

This is just one way to work toward your potential. Using self-hypnosis while studying and learning new perspectives and behaviors can be helpful.
