How We Label Things

How We Label Things

You can improve the quality of understanding others and yourself by considering the effect of the labels you use.

A basic technique I use to help clients is part of both Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-linguistic-psychology.

You might say you’re overwhelmed
I’d ask you if you could think of another word to
describe overwhelmed and you might say
you’re busier than usual.

You might say you’re exhausted and
I’d ask you if you could think of another word to
describe exhausted and you might say
you’re overtired.

The objective, as you can see, is to fully consider the words as labels that you assign to the many qualities of life.

What you say about others has the same impact.
A friend might seem depressed but maybe just blue.
Feeling low. Another friend might seem hyper while
the label energetic could be more descriptive.

Self-hypnosis is helpful toward identifying those
areas where you can change your self-talk and labels.
