Use Trance to Help Re-attribute

With OCD it’s essential to remember that it’s not you, it’s your brain. Just as you wouldn’t blame yourself for a broken leg causing you to limp, you can’t blame your brain for getting stuck.

(It’s not your fault)

Step 2 : Re-attribute. This has to do with answering the question for yourself of why you behave the way you do.

The answer is ‘because I have a medical condition where my brain malfunctions.’ You realize the brain has trouble shifting gears and by changing your responses to the feelings you usually have (by shifting gears), you start feeling like you have control.

Slowly, being kind to yourself while you learn these new habits, you’ll feel change.

Now you have:
1. Re-label…it’s not me, it’s my OCD
2. Re-attribute…why do I behave this way? Because I have a medical condition.
