When clients come to me and it is obvious that they aren’t feeling a sense of living a life that’s worthwhile, I’ll ask : “what are your choices”?
This is the beginning of understanding the values you have or lack. Values are the foundation for feeling worthwhile.
Ask Yourself:
- Do I feel separate from the life I’m living?
- Do I feel removed from the actions of my loved ones and friends?
- Do I feel like an imposter? Is it obvious to others that I’m pretending to be interested in them?
- What am I paying attention to if not to them?
- What is my inner dialogue?
- Am I dependent on others for stimulation?
The questions are numerous. Asking yourself what choices do I have can be most helpful?
Identifying the choices in your unique life can be clarifying.
- You have the choice of changing how you see yourself. You can contrast your self-image with someone you admire.
- You can mirror the positive behavior of this person.
- You have a choice in most areas where your values are concerned.
You will be happier if you become clear about what is valuable to you.
