Place Items Around the Table
Hypnotherapy, Life Coach and NLP Portland, Oregon: Improve Your Memory by Placing Items Around Your Dining Table
You can improve your memory by placing items around your dining table. I recently learned this from a wonderful coach and soon after read it in a book about memory.
Here’s how to use this:
- Imagine a rectangular dining table.
- See it large enough to have 4 chairs on either side and 1 on each end.
- Make the image of your table very specific.
- If you actually have a large dining table, use it.
- Quickly write down 10 items: shoe, hat, bouquet, bike, cake, your lover, a candle, a trophy, a poodle, and finally a lobster.
- Read this list (just an example, make your own) aloud and then see if you can repeat it. Don’t peak.
- The woman who taught me this could remember 50 items and could recall items out of sequence.
- Go back to seeing the dining table. Give each chair a number.
- The head of the table could be one, to the left, 2 etc. The idea is that you’ll always use the chairs around the table the same way so that you can quickly access the visual and name of the item.
- Using my example of 10 things, the shoe, number 1, would be at the head of the table. Every time you use this technique you’ll place the first item at the head of the table.
- Next, place the hat in the chair to the left of number one. This will always be number 2 on the list.
- By numbering the chairs, you will see the cake in the chair.
Have fun with this. You’ll be using your visualization skills.
