Hypnosis Portland, Oregon: Performance Anxiety

I’ve found we all have performance anxiety at one time or another. Many people get through it without much effort.

For those of you who avoid situations where you must ‘perform’ there is hope:

  1. Correct breathing is a first step.
  2. Breathe in to the count of 6, hold for 6 and exhale to the count of 12. Pay attention to your posture, be aligned and grounded whether sitting or standing.
  3. Repeat 3 times. Practice this if you’d like to be prepared for the unknown.

Now check on your ability to visualize.

  1. Close your eyes and see yourself as you want to be: relaxed, alert and calm.
  2. Not too calm as some amount of adrenalin is helpful for energy and intensity. You want to be at your best and feel free to excel.
  3. Make time each day to practice visualization. See yourself as you want to be.
  4. Recall a time when you ‘performed’ exactly as you wanted. Stay with this memory as long as you can and pay close attention to the details of what you were looking at, what you heard and how you felt in a visceral way.
  5. Once you have this memory clearly defined you can use it. Anchor the feeling by touching your thumb and index finger together.
  6. When in a new situation where you will perform, use your anchor to get the strong, positive feelings generated by the past experience.
