Controlling Your Attention

As clients begin to discover their preferences for what they’d prefer to pay attention to, they learn controlling their attention by doing the following:

Try this:

  1. Breathe in to the count of 6, hold for 6 and exhale to the count of 12.
  2. Repeat 3 times.
  3. Sit comfortably and practice holding your attention where you want it.
  4. Have several areas of interest in mind where you want increased attention and teach yourself to change focus, your attention, from one area to another.
  5. Notice what keeps you stuck.
  6. Acknowledge whatever is sticking and let it drift away.
  7. Notice what motivates you to concentrate. Get clear about this.

Be kind to yourself as you improve.
