How to Know if Your Unconscious Mind is in Conflict
One of my favorite techniques to teach clients is how to know if your unconscious mind is in conflict.
The whole process, from a simple perspective, is a practice of paying attention to what you say or think that reveals two differing perspectives.
You might say:
- I should ( pay attention to that word ‘should’) stop looking at my smartphone every 5 minutes.
- And then say: I want to have more control over repeatedly checking my smartphone for messages, but this is how I get business.
- How can I give excellent customer service if I don’t check frequently?
- The gain of ‘getting business’ from the messages on the phone is an honest pull toward checking.
- The 2 parts can come to a compromise by implementing some personal boundaries.
Try this:
- Turn off all signaling sounds on the phone.
- Set only the alarm to alert you to check for messages every 15 minutes.
- For people who are a wee bit compulsive over checking, this will be hard.
- Eventually, set the alarm to alert you at 1 or 2 hour intervals and realize your business will still be there.
- Be sure to set personal boundaries for the device to be off when work hours are over.
You will eliminate this feeling of conflict.
