How Anxiety Can Keep You Stuck
You may have found it difficult to break away from the thinking about how anxiety can keep you stuck. Sometimes you may have looping thoughts that keep you feeling that unease, that nagging pull of anxiousness. Or, you may realize that the more you put your mind to it, the feelings of anxiety stay the same or may even increase.
A simple way to look at this problem is to say to yourself, don’t think of a red truck. Your mind will immediately provide you with an image of a red truck, even if it’s one you’ve never seen. Telling yourself to stop feeling anxious only brings more anxiety to the feeling. You are caught in the loop. If you say to yourself that you don’t want to feel this way, it’s the same as saying ‘don’t think of a red truck’. You’re directing your attention to the unwanted feeling.
